John Cook will be demonstrating and teaching the classic skill of painting Plein air “in the open air”. The practice of painting outdoors from a box easel goes back to the French Impressionists days of painting light and its changing qualities while experiencing the peacefulness of the outdoors. John Cook will be teaching two classes a month for the Hull Art Academy. When weather is permitting, the class will be off site at different locations around the DFW area. Date and locations will be posted at the beginning of each semester. When it is raining or snowing, the class will be indoors at the Hull Art Academy and will be focused on Alla Prima painting (Italian, meaning at first attempt), it is a painting technique, used mostly in oil painting, in which layers of wet paint are applied to previously administered layers of wet paint. It allows for a looser and more direct feel to the painting.
